Two players to sign?

It seems as though at least one of the players will come from Cardiff City. They have had recent financial trouble and have not been able to pay wages. Manager Lennie Larwrence commented yesterday: "If there is a problem which has caused wages not to be paid, one of the remedies to look at is selling players. You don't have to be Einstein to realise that, but it's something that you've got to think about."

"Hopefully there will be no sales at all, unless it's a deal that would have stood up in normal circumstances. As the manager I can't reassure anything for certain, but I'm hopeful that everything will be resolved and I hope there will be no player sales.

"But it would be naive and foolish to say that they haven't been considered."

The two names being linked are those of Wales international Danny Gabbidon and Irish International and Cardiff club captain Graham Kavanagh.

www.CardiffCity-mad.co.uk believe the main transfer target to be Kavanagh and their editor Michael Morris believes his side may need a new club captain for their game on Saturday.

Both players would be a useful addition to the Latics squad, although Gabbidon, whilst being a very good and accomplished defender at present, would be a very good signing with a view to the Premiership.

He has shown numerous times against the Latics and especially for Wales against England that he is a very good defender, and with no disrespect meant, too good for the Championship.

Gabbidon would surely command a large fee under normal circumstances but the Blue Birds may settle for a quick sale to solve their wage crisis.

Kavanagh on the other hand has played at the top level before and has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premiership again. He did in fact leave Stoke City for Cardiff on the belief that the Welsh club would make the promised land. That dream has not materialised.

However, the Irish man is getting on in years and how many years are left in him, especially Premiership years should we get there, is doubtful.

Other names mentioned are those of Nicky Forster from Reading who Jewell has been a fan of for a while now and did try to sign the pacey striker last season.

PJ is rumoured to have enquired for the striker after he has fallen out of favour with Reading boss Steve Coppell. A small fee should be able to prise the striker away from the Madejski taking into account his age (31) and the fact that his is unhappy.

Brett Oremerod's name has again popped up and he is rumoured to be coming in perminantly for a fee of around £500,000 instead of an initially rumoured loan move.

Here is what PJ told the club's official website: "I've had a busy day but it looks as though we have agreed fees with two clubs for a couple of players. Obviously there is still work to do and therefore it's not fair to name names at this stage. However, I'm pretty confident both deals will go through.

"With a bit of luck the first will be completed tomorrow morning, while the other should be wrapped up early next week. It's great news if we can get these deals done as we know we need to strengthen and I feel that these to players will be good additions for us."
