Jimmy Bullard: Going nowhere!
into the weekends meeting with West Bromwich Albion and is in need of faces to boost his squad size.

Matt Jansen, released by neighbours Blackburn was expected to join the Latics but he has been training with Manchester City over the past few days, and seems happy to join the mid-table outfit.

Robert Earnshaw on the other hand is crying out for a move. The Welsh international striker is unhappy at the Hawthorns and has placed two transfer requests in the past month.

Robson has turned these down flat, commenting that he needs five strikers in his squad. Earnshaw was linked with a move to the JJB in the summer.

Dean Ashton of Norwich is the another name being mentioned with a move to Wigan. The former Crewe frontman is said to be the target of a renewed Latics bid after West Ham and Manchester City showed further interest.

Meanwhile chairman Dave Whelan has said this week that Jimmy Bullard will no be leaving the Latics. The 26 year old midfielder has been strongly linked with moves to Middlesbrough and Manchester City, but Whelan has been quoted: "Clubs setting their sights on Jimmy are wasting their time. Take it from me, he's going nowhere.

"He's a Wigan lad through and through.Jimmy remains a very important figure in our long-term plans. As I've stressed, we don't intend letting him go anywhere."

While Jewell himself understands the need to get players in, he said: "We are really stretched and it just shows the need to try and bring in some players. We will have to make even more inroads into the transfer market if we possibly can."
