Chris Brunt of Sheffield Wednesday is being linked. Wednesday are denying that a bid has yet to be made, but the Latics are said to be interested in the goalscoring midfielder.

Fulham and Derby are also said to be chasing his signature. A spokesman for the Owls said: "We've seen reports of clubs interested but have yet to receive any bids. Our manager Brian Laws is set to offer Chris a new contract.

"Chris would like to move to the Premiership but also stated his desire to lead Wednesday into the top flight. He has a year left on his current deal and we are aiming to keep him here for longer which is our aim with all our best players."

Mario Melchiot is also said to be close to signing in the near future. The defender is currently on holiday and the move should be completed when the Dutch international returns.

West Ham have this week announced that striker Marlon Harewood has no future at the club. The former Nottingham Forest striker was subject of a £4.5 million Latics bid back in January. Now both he and current Hammers team-mate Matthew Etherington could both join Wigan in a deal worth £5 million.

Meantime, Henri Camara is said to be close to a £3 million move to Portsmouth. The aging frontman lost his bust of pace last term and looked a shadow of the player that joined the club.

Many Latics fans cannot wait to see the back of Henri who let the club down last season with his performances.

Rangers are also said to be tiring of the Latics demands over Lee McCulloch. Chris Hutchings does not want to let the forward leave and is demanding a fee of over £2 million. The tight fisted Scotsmen however are only willing to pay £1 million.
