Bramble sat out twelve games after being dropped for the consistent Emmerson Boyce. But his Villa Park return showed just what the former Ipswich Town and Newcastle defender is capable of.

He said: "No one wants to be on the bench and not involved. Every player wants to play. I've just had to wait for my chance.

"When I was left out Boycie came in and did very well. The gaffer told me I'd be playing [against Villa] last Tuesday so I had a week to prepare myself mentally and make sure I was in great condition.

"I did my job. We kept a clean sheet and won the game. Now we can start planning for next season."

Bramble also insisted that the Latics will be aiming to defeat United and will be offer nothing less than a top class performance. He added: "All the pressure will be on them to come here to try and win the title. We'll try and win the game - we're professionals."
