Time to win for Latics captain

The weekend's results went against the Latics who lost away to West Ham whilst Sunderland, Norwich, and Stoke all got three points.

This has left the Latics in a precarious position at the bottom of the table, although Manchester United's home win against Aston Villa did help.

Emmerson Boyce knows that it is now or never for the Latics to start picking up results if survival is to be achieved, starting with Tottenham at the weekend.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, Boyce said: "We have to try and bridge that gap between ourselves and safety as quickly as possible.

“A lot of the teams at the bottom are playing each other over the next couple of weeks so that’s a good opportunity for us to make up some ground.

“But we need also to maximise our own points tally, which includes winning our game in hand.

“The last thing we want to be doing is going to the FA Cup final thinking about the more important game we’ve got coming up the following Tuesday in the league.

“It looks like that might have to be the case anyway given the situation at the moment, but if we have to do that then that’s the way it is.”

The weekend's home game with Tottenham will be far from easy as Spurs are chasing a top four finish in the table and have been in good form of late.
