Thome's timely boost

Thome has been out with a hamstring injury and hasn't played since the 3-1 Crewe victory back in February.

The big centre back is unlikely to make the squad for the Q.P.R. game but will certainly be in contention for the trip to Preston and the home game with Reading on the final day of the season.

Emerson Thome
Speaking to Wigan Athletic's Official Club Website manager Paul Jewell said: "Emo (Thome) is back in full training with the lads this morning and it's a great boost to have him back involved with us. However, it might be a little longer yet before he's back in full contention for a re-call. He'll probably be very stiff tomorrow because it's been a long time since he's been pushed as hard as that".

"There's only Per Frandsen and Paul Mitchell who are out of the picture with injuries now, so we're looking good for the these last 3 games. I have to pay tribute to the lads who've been out for a long time because their attitude around the training ground has been spot on.

"Both Per and Mitch are a credit to themselves in the way they have kept their spirits high despite not being in the picture. It's easy to sulk and feel sorry for yourself when you're out injured but they've played a big part in keeping spirits high. That's what I want to see from people at this football club, even if they're out the team for whatever reason, they will have a big part to play and I'm proud to say all the lads here reflect that!"

Jewell now has almost a fully fit first team squad to choose from and with no suspensions having been picked up the Latics squad could not be stronger for the final push.
