Thome departs

Emerson Thome
The Brazilian centre back made 20 appearances in a Wigan shirt after joining from near neighbours Bolton in a free transfer.

Thome's final Wigan appearance came in the 1-0 win over Newcastle back in November. His three appearances this season all came in the Carling Cup.

Manager Paul Jewell commented: "Emo (Thome) is great character and a good man and I've enjoyed working with him.

"It's always sad when a player leaves, but we've parted on good terms and both the club and I wish him all the very best for the future."

Thome is now being linked with a move back to his native Brazil, or Portugal, while Derby County are said to be monitoring the situation.

He has spent a brief period on loan with the Rams earlier this season.
