Team-mates support Baines for England

Last night's game with Holland - for which Baines was omitted - finished with a 1-1 draw. Wayne Rooney netted for England and Rafael Van der Vaart for the Dutch with just five minutes to go.

Denny Landzaat played in midfield for the Dutch and offered a competant performance in a dull friendly that offered little in terms of entertainment and quality.

Calls must now heighten for Baines to be included in the next squad as little was learned about a potential replacement for Ashley Cole.

Latics club captain and weekend goal hero Matt Jackson commented: "I was gutted for Bainesy when he didn't make it. He would certainly have been in my squad."

While goalkeeper and England international Chris Kirkland said: "I was a little bit surprised when Bainesy was not called up to the full squad because he's been absolutely superb. Everyone at the club knows what he can do and what he's capable of.

"He's a quality left-back and a very good defender. He rarely wastes a pass and he hardly ever gives the ball away. He can also hit a ball superbly, and I'm sure if he continues to do what he has been doing his chance will come sooner rather than later."

Kirkland missed last nights game and is now the proud parent of a baby daughter. Congratulations Chris.
