The 31 year old full back was a serious doubt for the Dutch after injuring a groin muscle in the 0-0 draw with Reading back in April.

However after a months rest, Melchiot is raring to go for his country this summer and Latics boss Bruce is delighted to see a Wigan player involved in the tournament.

He said: "Mario has been coming along fine - to see a Wigan player feature in the tournament would be fantastic."

Melchiot has been included in the 29 man provisional Dutch squad for the Championships by manager Marco van Basten.

We certainly wish Mario all the best, and with the absence of England in the tournament, Wigan could well turn orange in support of Super Mario and the Dutch.
