The former Crewe Alexandra striker is on loan with the Latics from Manchester United and he has developed wonderfully into the main striking option for the club as both Grant Holt and Marc Antoine Fortune have performed below par.
The 19 year old had been rumoured to be returning to Old Trafford in January but Uwe Rolser told the Wigan Evening Post that he is expecting the forward to remain with the club following his discusson with United boss David Moyes.
Rosler said: “I have had more good dialogue with David Moyes, and I know where we are. That’s all I can say for now. But look at my face – I am smiling – so that tells you it’s not the worst news. That says something.”
The news will be a big bonus to the Latics if Powell is granted a stay to the end of the season as he has been influential for the club so far ths term.
