At present the former United skipper has Heskey, Bent, Sibierski and Aghahowa at his disposal up front, but he is still hoping to add a different option to the front line of the squad.

The latest names to be linked are those of Coventry striker Michael "Mosquito" Mifsud and Motherwell's 21 year old striker Ross McCormack.

Bruce said: "If the right player becomes available, I would try to sign them in this transfer window. It is difficult at the moment because there is no one out there at all who we could realistically get.

"The attack is the area I would be looking at if I was looking to do something, someone to give us that bit extra. I'm always worried about losing Emile - you could see how light we were when we were without him earlier in the season."
