Still no call for Baines

Baines has made a real impact after making a strong break-through into the first XI this season and has made the left back spot his own ahead of £500,000 Steve McMillan and Northern Ireland international Peter Kennedy.

He has been a regular all season and there has still been no call despite the fact that this game is only a friendly.

Many Wigan fans believe this is because the club is not given the recognition it deserves and the player is not getting the attention he and the club warrants.

Jewell spoke on Soccer Saturday that sometimes it frustrates him but the recognition should come at the end of each season.

Meanwhile Stuart Downing from Middlesboro’, subject of a £500,000 bid from Wigan just two months ago has made the squad alongside Dean Ashton of Crewe who scored a hat-trick at the JJB stadium a fortnight ago.

Here is the under 21 squad in full:

Lonergan (Preston)
Carson (Leeds)
Ambrose (Newcastle)
Ashton (Crewe)
Bent (Ipswich)
Bentley (Arsenal)
