Squad must not dwell on freak result

It is becoming a familiarity for Latics fans this season, goals are being shipped in a large supply and the club currently has the worst goal difference in the division. This is not good, considering how tight it is going to be for clubs fighting relegation this season. Roberto Martinez is new to this level and every game is a whole new challenge and wants to change the whole philosophy of the side.

The defensive, direct style of play with the aim of survival is a target Martinez wants Wigan to leave behind. The long term goal is to turn the club into an attractive, successful football club who are going to be pushing for European football in the future. This said Survival has become the aim of this campaign. This is normally the aim for the club but with Martinez apparently in it for the long term, unlike Steve Bruce, it is a realistic target. Home games will be vital for this campaign and with Sunderland and Birmingham coming up at the DW, points will be crucial in these matches.

Fans who travelled to White Hart Lane on Sunday have been offered a full refund on match day tickets which the players are putting up which is a decent gesture from the squad. What Wigan fans witnessed yesterday was disgraceful. That said, the players have it in themselves to win games when they feel up for it. Stylish wins against Chelsea, Burnley and Aston Villa have proved that Latics can turn it on when they desire to. The important thing is that fans turn up at the DW on Saturday and get behind the lads. A win will be such a huge morale boost and prove to the nation and the world that Wigan are not going to be affected by a freak score line.
