Skoko extends Stay

The Wigan manager wanted a decision from Aussie Skoko, with the International wanted by a string of clubs from other countries. Skoko has delighted his manager by agreeing a new contract, subject to a work permit.

"I think Skokes proved himself to be a really valuable member of the team last season," Hutchings told the club's official website.

"He's a quality player who's equally strong on either foot and is an excellent passer of the ball.

"He came in last year and did really well. He offers something different for us in the midfield, which of course is an area where, traditionally, competition is highest.

"Skokes had offers from elsewhere, and I know that he was tempted to try his hand at another club. But he said he felt very settled at Wigan and that he would always be treated fairly here, which pleased me a lot.

"I'm delighted he has chosen to stay with us, really delighted."
