Last updated : 18 July 2005 By Paul Farrington
The previous record was 4,700 which were sold for the previous season in the Championship, but the Latics have already smashed this with over 7,000 going already.

The club are hopeful of selling more than 10,000 as the Wigan public flock to see their side play in the Premiership.

Chairman Dave Whelan told the club's official website: "This is a momentous day for the club and the town of Wigan. People have always questioned our support base but I was confident the interest in the town was there if we could provide top flight football. We've kept our prices reasonable and people are flocking to the JJB Stadium to make sure they can watch Premiership football in this town for the first time ever.

"When you look at the fixtures we've got coming up this season it's no surprise that supporters want to guarantee a seat. The chances for Wigan folk to watch their team take on the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool is a dream come true and I'm delighted so many are signing up for season."

Season tickets are now on general sale.
