Scharner eyes Wembley

Paul Scharner is dreaming of Cup glory
The Austrian international has been shifted to centre back since the arrival of Steve Bruce and has put in a string of impressive performances culminating in his man of the match display against the Black Cats.

He now wants to win the next four FA Cup ties and take his place in the first Wigan Athletic team to reach an FA Cup final.

Scharner told the Wigan Evening Post: "We need to win four more games to get to the Cup Final. When you play in the cup anything is possible and we have to believe it.

"We have shown what this club can do in the Carling Cup a few years ago. I don't know how serious the club want to take the FA Cup. But for me personally I always love cup games.

"It's a win/lose scenario. I like that format and I hope we can continue our run. We will have to look what our situation is in the Premier League. That's the priority. The league is where the club will get all the money if we stay up.

"But the FA Cup is a chance for the players who haven't playing in the league. No one has a fear of any team. There are no points at stake. The pressure is off everyone."

Four games is a long way in the FA Cup though and right now supporters would take survival before a cup run with Derby up next at the weekend. Scharner will miss Saturday's trip after picking up five bookings. Andreas Granqvist or Emmerson Boyce are likely to take his place.
