Sammon committed to Wigan

There have been strong rumours linking Sammon with a loan move to Derby this summer, but the Irish striker told the Wigan Evening Post that this is news to him.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m just totally focused on playing for Wigan, trying to break into the team, getting more starts and putting myself in contention," said Sammon.

“In the short term, my goals are to get my head down, get fit as quickly as possible, and trying to kick on.”

With the end of season form on display from Franco di Santo and the return of Mauro Boselli first team opportunities for Sammon may well be limited.

This isn't deterring Sammon who is confident he can prove his worth. “I’m really looking forward to the season. It’s a new start, a new slate,” he added.

“We’ve all had a good summer where all you want to do is switch off. But you come back for the first day of pre-season totally refreshed and raring to go for the new saeson.

The challenge is for the team to start the season as we finished last year, and hopefully we can knuckle down and make sure we do that.”
