Rosler hopeful to extend Powell deal

The former Crewe forward has made up for the disappointing performance of both summer striker additions, Grant Holt and Marc Antoine Fortune.

It comes as no surprise that a host of other Premier League clubs are said to be interested in taking Powell on loan for the rest of the season. Whilst it is also rumoured that new Manchester United manager David Moyes is keen to recall Powell as part of his immediate first team plans.

However new Latics boss Uwe Rosler has revealed he is optimistic of keeping hold of Powell until the end of the season and he has been in regular dialogue with the United manager.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post and Rosler said of the speculation: "I don't know where that other stuff is coming from. I speak regularly to David Moyes at Manchester United - I have a very good relationship with him.

"He has always been very helpful to me in my career, and supported me during my time at Brentford when he was at Everton. I took a number of his players to Brentford, and it worked well.

"And I tihkn Manchester United are very happy with the progress that Nick is making with us. The things that have appeared in the papers, I have no control over that at all.

"I can only refer to the direct conversation I have had with David Moyes, and we will have further conversations on Monday (today) and Tuesday. Once those talks have been had, I will know for certain what is going to happen.

"But so far there has been no indication whatsoever that anything has changed on that score."

The Latics also have Powell's fellow Manchester United teammate Will Keane on loan and Rosler is said to be on the look-out for a striker when January's transfer window opens in a little under 48 hours time.
