With the January transfer window looming it is expected that a number of players will leave the squad as well as Rosler make a number of additions to shape the playing staff in his own image.

However the German manager has already acted by recalling Nouha Dicko and Rob Kiernan from their loan spells.

Dicko was in red hot form for Rotherham and had scored six goals in five games for the Millers whilst Kiernan was influential in Southend's promotion charge from League Two.

Rosler worked with Kiernan last season whilst in charge of Brentford, Kiernan was on loan from the Latics at the time, and as the 22 year old enters the final six months of his contract, Rosler expects to use him for the Wigan first team.

He told the Wigan Evening Post: "I know all about Rob, having worked with him at Brentford. He had a very good time down at Southendm where he got more used to competitive league football.

"But I recalled him for a specific purpose - to use him. That is because of the injuries we have and the amount of players we have coming back from injury.

"We have the long-termers like Ivan Ramis, and also the short-termers like Emmerson Boyce. I didn't know it was his debut but I am happ for him and looking forward to working with him in the future.

"I would have no hesitation to use him either in the back three or as a screener in front of the defence in certain games."

The Latics are set to line up against Derby County at Pride Park tomorrow and new manager Rosler will be looking to start 2014 with a good result.
