The Grenadian international was the Latics top goalscorer in all competitions, bagging 14 goals, although only 8 of those came in the Premiership. Roberts scored a total of 43 goals in 103 appearances for the Latics

Roberts is Blackburns second striker signing of the day after completing a deal for Charlton striker Francis Jeffers.

Wigan manager Paul jewell says Blackburn's offer for Roberts was a 'fair' one, but didn't reveal how much Rovers paid for the hitman.

"When the offer came in from Blackburn, we felt it reflected his value and was a fair one and we gave him permission to speak to Mark Hughes. I'd like to thank Jason for his fantastic contribution for the club. He's never given anything less than 100% for me, and is a good professional who has had to fight hard in his career toearn a chance to play in the Premiership."

jewell added: "I have made no secret of the fact i wanted to bring new strikers into the club. This changes nothing in that respect because it's an area i was concentrating on anyways."
