Roberts: I was naive

Ferguson gets sent off
Ferguson was sent off in the 80th minute for an assault on Paul Scharner. A matter that should be taken up by the police and not the F.A..

Roberts was sent off shortly after Duncan Ferguson for raising his elbow in the face of David Weir who made the most of it.

The 28 year old striker said: "I think I was a little naive. Duncan Ferguson had been sent off just before, and after someone has been given the red card, you always have to be careful yourself.

"And honestly, I really did not try to hurt David Weir, my eyes were on the ball. However, I've since seen the incident on television and I have to admit there was contact, and it did look as though I caught him with my elbow.

"Paul Jewell is a little bit disappointed and he said to me straight after the game that if you raise your elbows, you can sometimes get yourself into trouble.

"I'm annoyed with myself that I have to miss some games now as I'm really enjoying my football at the moment.

"It is very difficult for me to be a spectator at football matches, especially if it's my team because I want to be involved.

"The worst thing about it is not being able to help my team-mates.

"I know it will be a frustrating time. All I can do in the meantime is train really hard and hopefully come back in the same kind of form and do well again.

"With the Tottenham game being brought forward, it will mean I will be available to play in the Carling Cup final.

"That is one positive point and good news.

"Obviously, I don't want to miss any games but it would be hard to take if I did not get the chance to be involved at the Millennium Stadium in Wigan's first major cup final."
