Roberts escapes punishment

Last updated : 30 December 2005 By Paul Farrington
Roberts had early received a yellow card for a stray elbow aimed at Collins. Replays seemed to show a second incident just minutes later in which the on fire striker elbowed the young defender, injuring his lip.

However it has gone unpunished with referee Steve Bennett declaring: "I saw the incident but didn't think it needed any further punishment."

This is good news for the Latics who are set to be without Henri Camara in January as he goes to play for his country in the African Nations Cup. To have Jason Roberts suspended at the same time would have made things very difficult.

The Grenadan striker has had an excellent disciplinary record so far this season with just three bookings in twenty appearances.
