Reading Countdown: Bruce hoping for three points

Should the Latics win the match on Saturday then the club will be 100% mathematically safe from the drop as a result of the other run-in fixtures.

Bruce told the Wigan Observer: "This is the club's biggest game for a long, long time. Arguably this is as big as the game against Sheffield United last season.

"This is not do-or-die because other people can do us a favour. But believe me it's a huge game. We've got to finish the job off now. I believe a result against them will be enough - even a draw I think will do it.

"We couldn't have wished to have been in a better position going into the game. It's in our hands to stay in the Premier League with three games left.

"It will be as hard a game as we've faced. It will be a tough challenge because of what's at stake. Reading are fighting for their lives as well. They will have a real go. If we pull it off we'll have a celebration - I'll gather a few people and off we'll go.

"I won't leave it until the end of the season - it's not in my nature.

"We've consistently picked up points at home. Over the last 20 games we would be eigth in the Premier League - that's a remarkable turnaround.

"If we do it then it gives me the advantage of setting things in place and being able to plan for next season. The earlier you can do that the better."

Reading meanwhile have recalled striker Leroy Lita from Charlton in preparation for the battle ahead of them. The former Bristol City striker scored three goals during his spell with the Addicks.
