"I'm happy to have made the move and I'm looking forward to starting training as soon as possible.

"It's always hard leaving a club like Wigan when you've been there three years and had good times there.

"It's always going to be hard but when you want to further your career then it's got to happen.

"To tell you the truth, I didn't even know West Brom were in for me until last Wednesday.

"Contract negotiations were stalling at Wigan and I only had a year left there.

"Once I was informed West Brom were in for me, and them being one step ahead, I thought it was a move in the right direction.

"I just think West Brom are a bigger club, with no disrespect to Wigan.

"West Brom have already stayed up and they're looking to kick on from there whereas Wigan are just looking to stay up - Albion are one year ahead in terms of football.

"But I'm very grateful to Paul Jewell for what he has done for me and I'm sure he feels the same about what I have done for him.

"I had a great time at Wigan and I wish all the boys the best because they're a great bunch of lads and I'm sad leaving there - but you have to move on with your career."

"I'm delighted Nathan is now on board and that he's a West Brom player. I think it gives us another dimension up front because he's very quick and very strong.

"That mixture makes him a little bit different to all my other strikers.

"The strikers already here have either got the strength and hold-up play but not the pace, or are quick and haven't got the strength.

"His track record is excellent. He was up there with the best in the Championship and his record proves that.

"Robert Earnshaw's goalscoring record in the Championship was also excellent so we've got two proven scorers of a different type.

"I'm confident Nathan can make the step up. He progressed from Bristol when he went to Wigan and now he's at the age where he can make the next step up.

"We're just hoping he proves us right."
