Pollitt has been a real bargain for the Latics since his £200,000 arrival from Rotherham shortly after the club's promotion to the top flight. And despite a lack of first team action last term, the former Manchester United trainee is enjoying the Premiership experience.

Mike Pollitt: 12 month deal
He told the Manchester Evening News: "I love being at Wigan and I also love being involved within the Premiership. I'd naturally have liked to have played more games last season, but it wasn't to be yet it's still great to be involved at this level and good to keep working hard."

The veteran goalkeeper has also spoke highly of England international Chris Kirkland, he added: "I enjoy working every day with Chris Kirkland, we get on very well together. Carlo Nash has returned from Stoke and we enjoy one another's company and keep each other on our toes.

"Chris did extremely well in the second half of last season. He really seemed to kick on when Steve Bruce came in. he works very hard and he turned in some fantastic performances, notably against Chelsea at Stamford Brigde.

"I think he enjoys me pushing him along, he is certainly a top- class keeper and it's just great to be within the set-up."

Supporters are still awaiting news on the progress of discussions with player of the season, Paul Scharner. The 28 year old Austrian defender has just twelve months left on his current deal and has been linked with moves away from the club.

However, recent reports in the media have suggested that Scharner has been convinced by Steve Bruce that he can achieve his ambitions with the Latics and the situation could well be resolved before the weekend.
