He said: "We're all sick for Polly (Mike Pollitt) because the cup final was the biggest occasion of his career.
"However, it's a testament to Polly's character that he's already working hard on the road to recovery and has been upbeat around the training ground. He really is the model pro and I can't speak highly enough of him for his attitude and professionalism.
"I hate to put a time on injury lays offs because there is no set period for any particular problem. Sometimes a player is told six weeks but is back after three.
"It can have a psychological impact on the recovery and I don't want to put Polly under any pressure like that. Our physio team are top class and will have him back when he's ready."
In the meantime, Aussie number one John Filan will have the chance to prove he still has the quality to keep goal in the Premiership as the Latics face Manchester United again on Monday.
