Player of the year Gomez ready for QPR tie

Speaking ahead of the crunch tie Gomez told the Wigan Evening Post: "We've all been working hard and this is what it's been for - the most important part of the season.

"We haven't been getting the best results recently, but the most important thing was we got into the play-offs and gave ourselves a chance.

"Now we are in there, it doesn't matter whether we finished third or sixth, or won at Blackburn on the last day or lost, or even that we lost at QPR last month.

"This is all that matters now. We've got plenty of experience in the last couple of years of knockout football, and our record gives us the confidence that we can take this latest challenge in our stride."

Gomez has been in great form for the Latics since the arrival of Uwe Rosler and that culminated in the Spaniard being named player of the season last weekend. He'll now be targetting some further good form against QPR, starting tonight.

The Wigan Evening Post, including an eight page preview ahead of tonight's game is available across the borough priced at 60p.
