Placente on trial with Latics

Placente flew into England to iscuus terms with the club and a deal is said to be on offer until the end of the season if he can impress manager Chris Hutchings during training.

Hutchings: It's never done until they've signed
When joining Celta, Placente rejected an offer from Everton, and was part of the Bayer Levekuson team that reached the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Speaking about his summer transfer activity, Hutchings told the Wigan Reporter: "I've got good staff behind me in Bill Green and John Benson who deal with the transfers. I identify the players we want and then hopefully they go out and make it happen.

"It's never done though until they've signed. Marlon Harewood was a prime example of that. Everything was done and he was on his way up here when he got a call from Aston Villa and he wanted to talk to them - I understood that.

"I have won more than I have lost over the summer, but you're always going to get knock backs."

Meanwhile, Hutchings is expected to keep faith with the eleven that took the club to the top of the table. That means that new signing Michael Brown will remain on the bench.

Hutch added: "Players might expect to play, but you've got to show belief in those that have done well. Denny will take the next penalty. But it's good that we've got others who will step up because it's a cat and mouse game if we get a second penalty."
