Placente admits English offer

The defender was subject to strong interest from the Latics during the summer to fill the problem left back spot. Since then, Kevin Kilbane has made the position his own with a string of consistent performances.

However there is still no cover for the position and new boss Steve Bruce will no doubt be looking to add quality as well as strength in depth to the squad. The addition of Argentinian international Placente would certainly add quality.

Speaking about the offer Placente told TyC Sports: "For the moment I am only thinking of the chance of staying in Europe and playing there. I still don't want to return to Argentina. Maybe in one or two years I will change my mind about staying definitely in my country.

"I am very thankful to River Plate and San Lorenzo who have thought about me and phoned me but I am analyzing an offer from an English team. For the moment I can't say too much but if I have the chance of moving to England it will be a very positive thing for my career.

"When I decide to return to Argentina it would only be to play either for River or Argentinos Juniors so I am thankful also to Boca who have given me a phone call but I could never play in that team as I respect River Plate a lot."
