Pitch Battle to result in points loss

The pitch at the JJB Stadium has been of a sub-standard for large parts of this season and it has been used to the club's advantage on a number of occasions.

However the Premier League and the FA are determined to put a stop to the pitch problems.

Just last month, chairman Dave Whelan promised to invest over half a million on the pitch to solve the problem "once and for all."

But it appears that this promise is not enough and the league have told the Latics that should the pitch deteriorate next season then points will be deducted.

Matthew McShane, a spokesman for the league said: "As the result of the chairman's meeting this month, any more pitch troubles for Wigan Athletic will result in a points deduction.

"Arsenal were particularly unhappy with the state of the pitch and we have to agree with them. Should we see a repeat of this next season then the game will be abandoned and the points awarded to the visiting team."

The news will no doubt come as a shock and outrage to Latics fans and manager Steve Bruce will also be fuming.
