Opposing bosses offer contrasting N'Zogbia thoughts

The 24 year old French international disappointed Birmingham City when he asked for extra money after passing a medical. As a result, his transfer to the second city fell through at the last minute.

N'Zogbia later revealed that he had no real intention or desire to join Birmingham.

Now the two managers have spoken about the flying winger ahead of the crunch clash this weekend. Whilst Roberto Martinez is delighted with the player, Birmingham boss Alex McLeish thinks he is in for a hostile reception.

"You know what fans are like. They are within their rights to do a lot of things. A fan will support his team and, if it means giving someone the bird, then he or she will do that.

"I hope our fans give everyone a hostile reception in the Wigan team, not just Charles.

"It is just part of the game and footballers have to take it on the chin and get on with it. Charles came and went. He had a chance to come and we just never got the deal done.

"It is brushed under the carpet and we move forward. I want to draw a line under it. It's over. We've moved on. I'm philosophical. I've lost a few deals in the past but you have to move quickly forward."

Whilst Latics boss Roberto Martinez was full of praise for the winger after his winning goal and performance against Preston in the Carling Cup.

"Charles has always been like that. Once the window shut he was focused, concentrated and wanted to do what he could to help the team.

"He has had to win the players over and he has done that. I have said before that Charles has been a victim of what I feel is a very unfair situation for players.

"The transfer window is a time when players need to think about their futures and their families and that shouldn't be going on while the competition is going on.

"The authorities should look into that. It is not only Charles, it was Javier Mascherano (at Liverpool) - every dressing room in the country has been affected.

"But what I am proud of is his reaction since the window closed. He has been patient and worked to high standards on a daily basis."
