Skoko

Skoko turned down a move to the Potteries just a week ago but has had a swift change of mind after a meeting with manager Paul Jewell.

The 30 year old wants regular action to try and force his way into the Aussie World Cup squad. He has joined Stoke until May and Damien Francis may not be too far behind Skoko.

Summer Signings

Paul Jewell is already planning his summer spending. He told the Wigan Evening Post: "The transfer window closed last week but you don't stop the search for players or take a break.

"We are looking to bring players in during the summer in order to strengthen the squad and have made that search more expansive.

"There's the British market, Europe, South America – there are good players everywhere and it's up to us to find them."

This search abroad is a sharp turn from the transfer strategy of buying British in the summer. Scouts are now scouring Europe for thebest players who want to join the Latics.

Jewell is pleased with the success of existing foreign imports Pascal Chimbonda, Stephane Henchoz, Andreas Johansson and more recently Paul Scharner.

He also spoke about a second season in the Premiership is vital for the Latics and the players must not sit back and relax.

Jewell added: "I'm well aware that they say the second season is the hardest and that goes for the club and the players.

"The novelty factor can quickly wear off and it's up to us to make sure we build on what we've done so far. I'm not saying we're safe yet, but we have almost guaranteed our survival and I can't speak highly enough of the players.

"But we must always look to improve – if you stand still in football you can quickly start going backwards. By identifying players we want, we are trying to keep moving forward."

Henri Camara
Camara

Meanwhile Henri Camara's Senengal side were very un-frotunate to get knocked out against Egypt in their semi-final of the African Nations Cup.

As a result the striker will take part in a 3rd/4th place play-off on Thursday.

Reports are conflicting as to Camara's return. It has been suggested that the pacey forward will not take part in the game and could return tomorrow, taking part in the Liverpool clash on Saturday. This is very unlikely.

It has also been rumoured that the striker will be flown back on a private aeroplane so he can take part in Saturday's game. Again this is unlikely as Camara will have no opportunity to train with his team-mates and a game on Saturday would be his third in the space of a week.

More than likely is Camara's return in time for our game with Tottenham the following Sunday.

Wiganer.net would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Camara on his success at the African Nations and feel he has been Senegal's best player (although we're biased!). We look forward to your return Henri.
