England Under 21 international left back, Leighton Baines is set for a spell on the sidelines after injurying his calf playing for England against Holland just last week.

No date for his return is scheduled, althought manager Paul Jewell expects the 21 year old to be out for at least two weeks yet.

"It looks like we're going to be without him for maybe two or three more weeks yet," said Jewell.

Meanwhile, the Latics have turned down an approach from Barnsley for veteran centre back Matt Jackson. The 35 year old is an integral part of the setup at the JJB and manager Paul Jewell wants to hang onto him.

Jackson scored in the 3-2 win against Charlton and put in a storming performance on Sunday as the Latics drew 0-0 with Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa.

On the signings front, Cork City have turned down an approach from the Latics for their striker Roy O'Donovan. The 21 year old forward has impressed a number of visiting scouts with 11 goals in 11 games for City.

He also made his international B debut last week when Ireland faced Scotland. Kevin Doyle, now of Reading, is a former team-mate of O'Donovan and the Irish side are keen to hang onto the striker despite there being just 12 months left on his current contract.
