Nash joins on emergency loan

The rumours were strong over the weekend that Nash - who is out of favour with North End manager Paul Simpson - would join on emergency loan to play against Watford on Tuesday.

Latics boss Paul Jewell told the club's official website: "Carlo is a great pro, exactly the right sort of player to come in and play a role for me in the circumstances. He is a good shot stopper and likes to command his box.

"He has experience at this level and I have no doubt about his ability to move back up to the Premiership. I'm disappointed for both Kirky and Polly who are both such fantastic professional, but that's the nature of football sometimes. They'll be back and I'm happy Carlo has come in to help us in the meantime."

While Nash himself said: "It's great to have a chance of playing in the Premiership again. I realise I'll have to fight for my place with John Filan, who is a great 'keeper with a lot of experience, but I hope I can help the team for the next month, or however long this agreement is."

Nash fell out of favour at Preston in January when he was pushing hard for a move to Fulham. The 33 year old wanted to be closer to his London based piece.

Andrew Lonergan has since taken over for the Whites with Nash frozen out of the picture and now it seems more than likely that Nash will face Watford for the Latics on Wednesday evening at Vicarage Road.

Meanwhile, Henri Camara is set to be fit for the game, and midfielder Paul Scharner is said to be just two weeks away from fitness.
