The promising England under 21 international suffered a bad knock against Hartlepool in the same competition and has had a forced spell on the sidelines, making his comeback at the weekend against Manchester City.

Now the 19 year old striker is hoping to get a full ninety minutes under his belt against Preston North End in a bid to earn full match fitness for the rigours of the Premier league.

He said: "Obviously I've been out injured, and I just want to get myself fit now and get a few 90 minutes under my belt.

"I want to make it as hard as I can for the gaffer to leave me out, and just enjoy my football again. I obviously need to work on my match fitness but I'm sure that'll come with games.

"We're all looking forward to Wednesday's game and the chance to get back to winning ways. A win against Preston would be a great way to prepare for the Birmingham game on Saturday."
