The tall, athletic forward has joined on loan from Shaktar Donestk until the end of the season. Moreno was born to a Brazilian father and a Bolivan mother. He has represented Brazil at youth level and has scored seven goals in seveteen apearances for Bolivia.

Speaking to the club's official website, Roberto Martinez was clearly delighted to make Moreno his final addition of the window, he said: "We knew we needed more competition in the forward area, and now we have Victor Moses and Marcelo Moreno," he said.

"Shakhtar paid 9 million Euros for him 18 months ago, which shows you how highly he is regarded, and he has all the ingredients to become a big player in this country.

"He still needs to find his feet in Europe, and we are confident that this will be at Wigan. Let's see what happens over the next few months but he certainly fits the bill for what we are looking for at Wigan Athletic.

"He is young, a superb athlete, good in the air, technically good with both feet and he will add something new to the squad.

"Hopefully he can adapt quickly to the demands of the Premier League and become a real quality addition to the Wigan Athletic squad."

Aged just 22, Moreno joins James McCarthy, Victor Moses, Scott Sinclair, Momo Diame, Hendry Thomas and  Jordi Gomez , all players under the age of 24 brought in by the Latics boss.

Moreno's move is subject to international clearance and so he is not available for the game with Notts County tonight.

He has been given the number 18 shirt and is delighted about the chance to play in the Premier league. Moreno said: "Roberto Martinez sold the club to me, and I am determined to come to England and make an impression. I want to do everything I can to get in the team now and I'm looking forward to meeting all my new team mates and fighting for my place."
