Middlesbrough join Chimbonda Race

Tottenham have pulled out of the race to sign Chimbonda, after making £2million and £3million bids, plus a player swap offer rumoured to be for Danny Murphy and Andy Reid.

Jewell has re-iterated his stance on the matter, and refuses to let Chimbonda leave for less than £6million, a price Spurs are refusing to pay. The London club earlier in the week pulled out of the race to sign the Frenchman.

Middlesbrough are thought to be in the market for a new right back with young pair Tony McMahon and Stuart Parnaby currently battling it out for a starting berth, however it is now thought that Boro boss Gareth Southgate wants to bring in an experienced right-back, with Chimbonda one of his top targets.

It would prove to be a funny end to this ongoing transfer. Chimbonda has stated that he wants to sign for a 'big club. and to see him running out for Middlesbrough, who finished below Wigan and who aren't in Europe, would put a smile on the faces of Wigan fans.
