McManaman signs new deal

The news was broken to the press just hours before kick off of last nights game with QPR, a game in which McManaman was named in the starting line up.

The 22 year old was the star of the FA Cup Final in May as he tormented Manchester City with his direct running down the right wing.

Despite his indifferent start to this season his four year long signing is great news for the Latics as the former Everton trainee battles back to full fitness following an ankle injury at the tail end of last season.

Speaking about his new contract with the club, McManaman told the club's official website: “I’m delighted to get my future sorted. This is where I made my debut and got my break in football and I just want to thank the Manager for having faith in me.

"A big thanks to the Wigan fans as well, for their support in every game, it makes a big difference to me and makes my family so proud. It means so much.

“Now I just need to get my head down, keep working hard and hopefully keep my place in the team and do everything I can to help the team be successful.”
