McGibbon joins Iron

The well publicised deal which has been brewing all week long was always subject to the Centre Half proving his fitness after suffering a thigh strain during the recent home game against Blackpool.

Jewell told the official website that the deal could soon become perminant.

The Irishman is out of contract at the end of the season and has been told by Jewell that he will not be offered a new deal. After five years loyal service, including scoring the goal that clinched Latics promotion to Division Two in 1997, Jewell will not stand in the player's way should a contract be offered to him at Scunthorpe.

McGibbon has been on the transfer list all season and has initially signed a loan deal that will keep him at Glanford Park until Saturday March 16th. He will of course join up with former team mates Carl Bradshaw and Peter Beagrie, whilst coincidentally his first game for The Iron will see him come up against another ex-Latics man in the shape of Kevin Nicholls, as Brian Laws men travel to Kenilworth Road Luton tomorrow.
