McCormack signs

After rejecting the advances of both Middlesbrough and the Latics during last month's transfer window, McCormack has been convinced by Bruce to join in time for next season.

The former Rangers player commented that he wanted to stay with the 'Well to help them battle for third place in the SPL but will join the Latics on a bosman style transfer at the end of his current contract.

Speaking about the move, McCormack said: "Steve Bruce has been brilliant. He told me that he doesn't want me as a squad player and assured me that I will be given my chance in the first team.

"He also told me that I should use Wigan as a stepping stone to bigger things and he believes I am capable of doing that, which was nice to hear."

As he is under 24, it is unclear whether the club will have to pay compensation for the striker, but as the transfer is taking place across borders he may arrive on a free.
