McArthur: We have the belief to survive

The Latics have eight matches left, including a daunting run against Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal.

But with Blackburn and Wolves as the final games of the season, there is always belief that the Latics can stay up.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, McArthur said: “It’s tough at the bottom – it was last year and it certainly is again this time.

“Teams are going to get results when they’re not expected to – and probably a lot of people wouldn’t have expected us to have gone to Liverpool and won.

“But we have huge belief in our play and that allows us to get results like that. I’ve always believed we can get out of trouble, and if we can keep pushing each other on there’s no reason why we can’t.”

“We need to pick up our home form, but we just need that little bit of luck in front of goal.

“Our last seven performances – apart from Swansea – have been outstanding, we’ve been putting teams under major pressure and creating loads of chances. We just need to take a few more and try and keep that elusive clean sheet at the back.”
