Martinez moves to strengthen frontline

Scotland has played under Martinez at Swansea and now the former Swans boss wants the Trinidad and Tobago striker among the Wigan squad for his first season as a Premier League manager. Scotland has never played in the top flight in England but Martinez believes the former Dundee and St Johnstone striker can prove himself amongst some of the best players in the world.

Scoring 33 goals in 66 games for St Johnstone, Scotland proved that he has the ability to score goals in the SPL. Moving to Swansea in 2007, Scotland scored 53 goals in 102 games in both League One and the Championship. At 30 years of age, Scotland seems to be a late bloomer and if he continues his goal scoring form in the Premier League if the move is completed, Martinez will have purchased a good striker.

A fee of £2m is being reported and Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has said "We will consider the contents of the offer and respond accordingly within the next few days."
