Martinez hoping for positive Old Trafford display

The Latics have a less than proud record against tonight's opponents and have yet to take points off them in any competition.

Martinez is hoping to change this. He told the club's official website: "We're going into this game wanting to get a positive result with an attitude that suggests we can win."

"We know it's going to be tough, but if we start the way we finished against Blackburn and do the things we've done well so far this season we can compete against anyone. So it's a great challenge for us, a fantastic place to play football and we'll all be ready for the occasion.

"Football is all about the players and it's up to us as managers to make sure the players are in the right frame of mind, and give them the opportunity to compete at their best, against one of the best teams in world football.

"We all know how good Manchester United's home form is, only a few teams are able to get a positive result, and sometimes you need things to go your way.

"When we went to Arsenal earlier in the season, we were pleased with what we did off the ball, but disappointed with what we did in possession, so I feel this is an opportunity to show how we've taken our game to another level.

"If you look at the results and performances we've since the Sunderland win I feel we deserved to get more from those games than we did."

In team news, Momo Diame could be ready for the game but it is likely that he will not be risked. Hull City visit in the FA Cup on Saturday in a game that lacks in importance for Martinez. It is more than likely that Diame will be given another week to fully recover.
