Martinez hoping for further progress

The Latics manager has been pleased with his team so far this season, but is hoping to make further progress this weekend against Manchester City.

Martinez said: "We need to make sure that we take the positives out of a difficult situation in which we have a number of players off on international duty.
"As long as they come back injury-free and feeling good we'll make sure that they have that positive attitude playing for Wigan Athletic.

"Playing for your country is a proud moment and an honour. In that respect, it's important they carry on working hard when they go on international duty.
"It also helps them to hit the ground running once they return, because we all know the demands of the Premier League are high and require players to be 100%."

Martinez is expected to name the same line up against Manchester City that was defeated away at Hull City just over a week ago with both Scharner and Scotland retaining their places in the starting eleven.

Speaking about the club's forthcoming opponents, Martinez added: "Sunday's game will be a fascinating one. Man City are in the top-four and are one of the teams everyone is predicting will be able to stay there.

"With only one defeat so far this season they have great talents in their ranks, but with us playing at home we have a responsibility to be ourselves and using our fans to make sure we're ready to compete on the day."
