Martinez expecting tough City test

Last Updated : 17-Sep-2010 by

City spent over £100m in the summer on a squad that already boasted the talents of player such as Carlos Tevez and Shaun Wright-Phillips. But results so far this term have not lived up to the expectations as City have not shot to the top of the table.

Instead a string of mediocre results have left City fans frustrated.

Now, Roberto Mancini's men face a visit to the DW Stadium, and Latics boss Roberto Martinez is tipping City to hit form, but hopefully not against his own side.

He told the Wigan Evening Post: “You are always looking at what you are doing rather than the opposition. But you look at Manchester City, and you feel it’s only a matter of time before they are competing to win the Premier League.

“You just hope that we are playing them at a time when we can disrupt them and not allow them to be themselves. They have assembled probably the best squad of 20 footballers anywhere in the world, and that’s obviously a fantastic position to be in.

“It’s only a matter of time before they click, and they are going to be challenging for the title very soon – there’s no two ways about that. We just need to make it difficult as we can for them, and we are also desperate to get the rewards we didn’t get against Sunderland.”

“You can buy as many players as you like, but you’ll never buy a complete team. The hardest part of the challenge facing the management at City is to get a team out of a lot of skilled individuals.”
