Martinez demanding a fair price

The Honduran international has continued his impressive form for last season into the present campaign, growing into a key player for the Latics.

As a result, Roberto Martinez is unwilling to sell his key assets unless a fair price is paid. Consequently, the Spaniard is demanding £8 million for Figueroa.

The move to play hard ball over prices will be a big bonus to Wigan Athletic supporters who are annoyed that the club has become somewhat of a halfway house with too many players being sold on the cheap.

With the sales of Wilson Palacios, Emile Heskey, Antonio Valencia and Lee Cattermole, the books are more than balanced and Martinez is under no pressure to sell.

Figueroa is also a firm fans favourite and has become a real integral part of the squad since his man of the match debut appearance against Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United a little over eighteen months ago.

The 26 year old spent a hard Christmas away from his family in 2007 in a bid to earn himself a deal in the top flight, and has never looked back since. Wigan Athletic fans sincerely hope he remains a Latic after the January transfer window closes.
