Di Santo has joined on a permenant basis from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee. The 21 year old Argentinian striker could be just the target man that the Latics are looking for.

Whilst Cleverley has joined on a season long loan deal from Manchester United. The England under 21 international midfielder scored an impressive 11 goals in 33 appearances for Watford last season.

Speaking about the duo, Martinez said: "He [Di Santo] has always had that dream of earning the chance to play for Chelsea and now he can focus on playing for Wigan and being himself.

"I have seen him play many games for Audax in Chile and all I want is for him to recover that level and if he does that we will enjoy a lot of good football from him."

Whilst of Cleverley, the Latics manager added: "In my eyes Cleverley is one of the top English prospects in the game.

“And when you get players from clubs like Man United you know you are getting players who are disciplined, perfectly coached, and who have that vital footballing arrogance, as well as great tactical awareness.”

Both players will go immediately into the squad to face Sunderland at the weekend.
