Martinez delighted with Arsenal atmosphere

Particularly as the third goal went it, and the crowd went wild, the DW stadium was rocking and Arsenal didn't know what had hit them.

Roberto Martinez has singled out the supporters for praise following his sides 3-2 win over the Gunners. He told the club's official website: "I think that's the best atmosphere I've ever seen at the DW Stadium. That's including the years I spent as a player or a fan coming to watch the games in the Premier League and before.

"That's something we need to re-produce on a regular basis. We're in the best league in the world and we have to keep allowing our players to feel special every time they step out onto the pitch, dreaming of our future development."

There was also special praise for Steve Gohouri whose performances in the absence of Gary Caldwell have given Martinez real food for thought.

"These are the kinds of problems you want as a manager. Compare that to after the Man City game when we had players missing and limited options, and I know which situation I'd prefer to be in," added Martinez.

"We have healthy competition for places right now, and the squad is in an excellent period in terms of availability, that's what we need.

"Steve has been working extremely hard since January. When he arrived you see straight away the desire he had to do well for Wigan Athletic, trying to progress his career and fight for a place in his country's World Cup squad.

"He's a leader, a real character and above all else a winner. From day one we've tried to get his fitness up and know he's a great example of what can be achieved with hard work."
