Steve Bruce had already had a bad day yesterday as his side went down 5-1 in their derby match with Newcastle United, a result that will have certainly added a smile to one or two Wigan faces.
Former Latics Titus Bramble was also sent off in the game whilst Lee Cattermole was substituted before he could get himself sent off.
The Sunderland boss has made no secret of his desire to sign N'Zogbia, but speaking about his star player Latics boss Roberto Martinez was keen to point out that he believes N'Zogbia can reach another level at the DW.
He said: "Charles was a victim of the speculation that the transfer window brings.
"But you need to understand that they are footballers and they are human beings and there is a point as a footballer where you need to have time to think with your family about the next step, about the future.
"Since the window closed, Charles has been focused and concentrating - he has been earning the respect of everyone and all he wants is to help the team to win football games.
"Last season was the best he's had in his career - he scored seven goals, he played in a different position and he's got a great enjoyment when he plays football, which is something that is great to see.
"I believe that Charles N'Zogbia can reach another level playing for Wigan Athletic."
