Martinez charged by FA for honesty

The Latics boss was being boldly honest in his reflection of the decision. Caldwell's tackle had no hint of a two footed nature and whilst being hard, was most certainly fair.

The decision to send Caldwell off cost the Latics any hope they had of continuing to stifle City and hold on for a point.

Martinez also retracted his comments as he knew these would be likely to get him in trouble with the FA

Attwell then watched the incident on television and filed his report. Surprisingly it didn't say anything about a two footed tackle and the wording had changed to 'excessive force'.

I suppose Latics fans should be grateful for Attwell only awarding a red card against the club. He went one step further when Watford faced Reading in the Championship when he just directly awarded Reading a goal when the ball went wide!

Another comedy decision from a referee, and for his honest protest, manager Roberto Martinez is charged with inproper conduct. Attwell then went one step further, changing his opinion to protect his back in his report and blocking any chance of an appeal by the club. Surely this system is wrong.

Martinez has until the 22 April to respond to the charge.
